Margaret Coote
Margaret Coote has been a teacher of violin, viola, piano and chamber music for over 20 years. She holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (MM) and Swarthmore College (BA). She has taught at the Eastman Community Music School, the Kanack School of Musical Artistry, Hochstein School of Music and Dance, and Scor! chamber music camps. She currently teaches at her home studio in the city of Rochester, as well as online.
Margaret is committed to helping her students develop excellence through sustained, focused, playful, enjoyable work on the instrument. She believes that music is a lifelong gift, and with her teaching she aims to connect her students with their instruments and music in a deep, sustainable, joyful way.
Margaret teaches all ages. She is trained in the Suzuki method, as well as in more traditional pedagogical methods and creative/improvisational methods. To this blend of influences she brings a wealth of experience in teaching and music-making, as well as a love of the visual arts, language and literature.
Margaret is also a student of yoga and the Alexander Technique. She is an avid reader, enjoys painting and drawing, and is an active performing musician.
