 Sam Payton is the founder of Payton Violins and a master luthier with over two decades of experience in crafting, restoring, and refining fine string instruments and bows. Since beginning his career, Sam has trained and worked with some of the most respected names in the field, including Christopher Germain Violins, Mount Airy Violins & Bows, Fred Oster Violins, and Tarisio Fine Instruments & Bows.

Drawing on this foundation, Sam established Payton Violins as the premier violin shop in upstate New York, known for its uncompromising standards in restoration, setup, and customer care. His expertise spans the full spectrum of violin making—traditional handcraft, advanced wood treatments, bow making, and the development of innovative varnish systems—ensuring that every instrument leaving the workshop meets the highest artistic and technical standards.

Danielle Payton - Owner

Danielle, with over 15 years of organizational leadership, provides business and operational support to the shop. She helps streamline processes so that musicians and their families receive exceptional service. By balancing strategic planning with hands-on problem solving, Danielle plays a key role in both the customer experience and the long-term growth of the shop.

David Hauck -Sales Manager

David, a Rochester native, began playing cello at eight years old. David had the pleasure of studying with wonderful teachers that led him to touring and performing nationally and internationally.  David graduated Nazareth College with a degree in Music Therapy and has been in violin family sales for nearly a decade.  David finds great joy in inspiring the next generation of musicians and matching them with their perfect instrument.

Hideo Nagai - Workshop Manager - Luthier

Hideo, master luthier, brings over 20 years of experience, most recently from David Segal’s esteemed shop in New York, previously in Cremona Italy, and Tokyo Japan.
