Home Trials Made Easy
We understand that players need time to explore an instrument or bow, which is why our Sound Investment Guarantee includes a free 10-day home trial. Whether you’ve found your instrument through our web services or got personalized recommendations from the experts in our showroom, we’ll set-up and fine-tune your trial instrument to ensure peak performance and quality sound.
You can select up to three instruments or bows for a home trial, giving you the opportunity to learn how the instrument responds to different musical styles or techniques, hear the instrument in settings with varying acoustic properties, and get valuable input from others invested in your musical journey.
Shipping Instruments for Trial
We love when folks can pick up their trial instruments from our store, but we understand that’s not a possibility for everyone. Because of this, we ship trial instruments and bows anywhere in the continental United States for a simple flat shipping cost. Just fill out the form to get your trial process started. If we have any questions, someone will reach out to confirm the details of your trial, including instrument and/or bow selection and shipment timing.
Most trials ship within 1 to 2 business days of receipt of request. However, we may delay shipment to avoid instruments being left in a warehouse over the weekend if the weather conditions are likely to be extremely hot or cold.
Payment
Our payment arrangement is simple – we pay for shipping to you, you pay for return shipping up front. We will include a return FedEx Ground label(s) when we send your trial items.
We will request credit card information for security purposes and to process the return shipping fee. We may also request to pre-authorize the credit card for the full value of one of the instruments in your trial shipment.

Returning Your Trial Instruments
Your 10 day trial period begins upon your receipt of the instrument. At the end of the trial, you can use the original packing materials and the return labels to send us any of the instruments, bows, or cases you have decided not to keep. You can also use this opportunity to ship us a trade-in instrument. Please contact us for pre-approval prior to shipping a potential trade-in instrument originally purchased from a shop other than Payton Violins.
If you decide to purchase a trial instrument or bow and do not use an included return label, the shipping charge will be credited back to you via your final purchase invoice. Instruments not returned to Payton Violins within 14 days of customer receipt will be charged to the credit card on file unless the trial has been expressly extended in writing by Payton Violins.
Our Trade-in Guarantee
Purchasing a quality instrument or bow is an investment in your musical future because you are investing in something that will retain its value over time. For this reason, we back our sales with a 100% trade-back policy for any Payton Violins instrument or wood bow and a 50% trade-in allowance for carbon fiber bows. Cases are also included in our Sound Investment Guarantee, with all cases purchased new accepted at 50% of the original cost if in good condition upon trade-in. Our trade-in guarantee lets you exchange your existing instrument or bow for another instrument of equal or greater value, making it easy to trade up in a stepwise manner in terms of size, instrument or bow quality, and tonal expression.
If you’re looking to trade-in an instrument, it must be in the same condition as when originally sold by Payton Violins. Normal wear and tear is acceptable. Moderate to major damage, such as cracks, broken edges or corners, etc., may void the trade guarantee or result in a reduction of the value at the sole judgment of Payton Violins. There is a limit of one trade-in outfit (instrument, bow, or case) per subsequent instrument purchase.

Purchasing an instrument is a sound investment that will, with proper care, maintain its value over time. Our Sound Investment Guarantee offers affordable financing options and even allows you to trade in an instrument or bow previously purchased from Payton Violins and apply the credit towards an instrument upgrade.

Returns
Any instrument purchased from Payton Violins, whether online or in our shop, is part of our Sound Investment Guarantee. This allows you to purchase with confidence; if you are not completely satisfied with any merchandise you receive, please contact us for immediate exchange, refund, or credit. Returns must be in original condition and packaging – any returns received within 30 days will be honored with a full refund.
Please note: because returns must be in original condition, we cannot accept string returns once they have been installed on an instrument. Rosin or other consumable products are also not eligible for return once they have been used.
Defective Product
If for some reason you receive a defective product, we will ship a replacement free of charge.
