Sales Manager

Payton Violins is seeking a high-performing, highly organized, music-loving Sales Manager to become the face of our shop.

This is not a typical retail job. You’ll work with musicians, students, and families at meaningful moments — first instruments, major upgrades, auditions, and long-term musical journeys. We’re looking for someone who cares deeply about music and instruments, thrives in a dynamic environment, and can confidently wear many hats while keeping everything running smoothly.

  • Energized by a role that blends sales, operations, and community engagement
  • Equal parts closer, consultant, and caretaker of the customer experience

What You’ll Do

Sales & Client Experience

  • Guide customers through instrument and bow selection, rentals, upgrades, and long-term ownership decisions
  • Close sales naturally through trust, product knowledge, and attentive customer care
  • Follow up promptly after meaningful customer interactions
  • Build long-term relationships with musicians, families, teachers, and schools
  • Generate business through outreach, referrals, and community presence

  • Maintain a welcoming, polished, and professional in-store experience
  • Support the daily rhythm and organization of the shop floor
  • Participate in recitals, events, teacher gatherings, and community-facing activities

Inventory & Systems

  • Manage inventory of instruments, bows, and accessories
  • Maintain rental records and support rental client services
  • Help keep internal systems accurate and up to date
  • Assist with website updates such as product descriptions and content changes

Marketing & Business Development

  • Support marketing and outreach efforts as directed
  • Develop relationships with local teachers, orchestra programs, and the broader music community
  • Help expand the reach and reputation of Payton Violins

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 2 years of relevant sales or customer-facing experience
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational ability and attention to detail
  • Comfort with Google Workspace and willingness to learn internal systems
  • Knowledge of string instruments preferred, or a demonstrated willingness to learn deeply
  • Valid NY State driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed

Why This Role Matters

At Payton Violins, sales is not transactional — it’s relational. This role is central to the growth of the business. You’ll help shape how musicians experience our shop, how families come to trust us, and how our reputation grows through the community.

If you love music, take pride in doing things the right way, and thrive in a role where no two days are exactly the same, we’d love to hear from you.
